Duck Race

Girl Scouts Beyond Bars
Dony-ea Jones, 10, of Kent, front, and her sister Nyree, 6, are comforted by their mother Tonya, an inmate at the Washington Correction Center for Women at Purdy, during their visit through the Girl Scouts Beyond Bars program. The girls have been in the program for two years, as long as their mother has been in prison. Tonya was sentenced for second-degree murder. "I thank God for the program because it brings variety to me," Tonya said, "It's a part of parenting." She said it allows her to discuss important issues with her daughters that would be neglected during their regular visitation.
Olympic Swim Trials

Navy Homecoming

Buried with Honors
Roxanne Slate, widow of PFC Charles Hester, and Chuck Hester, Hester's father, react as members of the 3rd Brigade 2nd Infantry Division at Fort Lewis, the unit that Hester was in, fold the flag that was draped on the casket. Hester, a Bremerton native who was killed in Iraq, was buried with military honors, Saturday, in Tahoma National Cemetery.
Refs
Referees gathered to lead off the Parade of Champions at the Mat Classic XV, Saturday, marking the beginning of the wrestling championship finals in Tacoma, Wash.
Eyeing Freedom
This great horned owl was released at Pendergast Regional Park, Friday. It had been caught in a soccer goal at the park and was nursed back to health at the Island Wildlife Shelter on Bainbridge Island, Wash.

South Kitsap Fire
After helping the South Kitsap Fire and Rescue crew extinguish the fire in his large detached garage, owner Dick Briggs walks past the charred remnants. Briggs said he suspects a propane heater in the structure, a four-car garage in which no cars were kept, started the blaze.

Grief
From left, Ellen Heitstuman, Kayla Kehoe and Anna Heitstuman, all of Belfair, Wash., grieved their friend Marissa Goodell on Monday near the site where the Belfair 16-year-old died in a car accident Sunday. She was driving with several others from her church youth group when their car collided head-on with a Mukilteo familiy.
