Carolyn J. Yaschur, Ph.D., Multimedia Journalist
I am an assistant professor of Multimedia Journalism and Mass Communication at Augustana College, Rock Island, IL. As an award-winning newspaper photojournalist with 10 years’ experience, my research stems from my professional background. It centers on visual communication, digital media and multimedia, specifically the production of visual journalism and audience effects. I completed my Ph.D. in journalism at the University of Texas and have a Master’s degree from the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
As a multimedia journalist I covered major sporting events such as: the Olympics, the Iditarod, the Kentucky Derby, the Indy 500, NASCAR, the NFL, and Major League Baseball. I've also covered national events and people such as: President Clinton, U.S. Naval operations and the Miss America Pageant. However, the most meaningful part of my job is in telling the stories of everyday people in the community through words, images and video. I am excited about passing my knowledge and experience on to the next generation of journalists, because even as the field is changing, we need talented and ethical journalists more than ever.
