CAROLYN YASCHUR: Since 1997, I have been capturing moments, a fraction of a second at a time. I am a formally-trained professional photojournalist and have worked full-time on a newspaper staff for nine years. I have photographed just about everything you can imagine, including the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece, the NFL, NBA, MLB, the Miss America Pageant, and the 2008 Iditarod.
Those are the big highlights. But, really, what I photographed most often, were the lives of everyday people. This is where you find the moments between the moments. This is where heartfelt images are created. These are the photos that last a lifetime. I have a Masters in Journalism from the University of Missouri and have recently returned to school to get my Ph.D. in Journalism from the University of Texas, studying visual communication. So, after years of honing my skills to intuitively make eye-catching and emotionally appealing photographs, I am now doing research on what makes a photograph better. This has taken my photography to the next level.
I also am an experienced teacher, having taught photography to children through adults. I offer personalized training, semi-private lessons and workshops. Please contact me for more information about basic photography or photojournalism lessons.
